Grand River CarShare is joining the growing list of local businesses and organizations in support of light rail transit.
As an organization which promotes transportation alternatives to the privately-owned automobile such as carsharing, cycling and transit, Grand River CarShare supports the current LRT proposal. Providing light rail transit service in Waterloo Region will provide citizens with better access to active and sustainable transportation options and help reduce car dependency. Transportation costs, traffic congestion, and air pollution will all be reduced with better transit, thus improving our community.
“After a decade of public consultation and significant funding from Federal and Provincial governments, it is time for Council to move ahead and bring light rail transit to Waterloo Region,” said Jason Hammond, President. “LRT will provide strength to a more complete transportation system, which will allow more citizens to reduce the burdens of car ownership.”
By the time light rail trains go into service, transportation options available in Waterloo Region will include an estimated 100 CarShare vehicles, GO trains, an inter-modal transit hub at King and Victoria, vastly improved local and express GRT bus service, a revitalized trail system, and bike sharing. Light rail transit is an essential part of this complete vision that supports the many citizens impacted by the rising cost of driving.
