Drive ItDriving Tips

There’s more to driving than just getting behind the wheel and hitting the gas. Follow these driving tips to get the most out of your tank of fuel, and to help keep you and those around you safe on the road.

  • Go easy on the gas and the brakes – it helps conserve fuel.
  • Check your tire pressure – improperly inflated tires waste fuel.
  • Check your blind spots for cyclists and pedestrians at right turns.
  • When you’re not on the highway, save gas by rolling down the windows instead of using air conditioning
  • Turn off your car if you’re going to be stopped for more than 10 seconds. Idling pollutes the air, and turning your car on again uses less gas than leaving it running.
  • Give yourself extra time to get to your destination – you never know when traffic will be tied up.
  • Bundle your errands into one trip to make more efficient use of the car.
  • Always back in to parking spots – its safer to pull out when you can see what’s ahead.
  • Drive the speed limit – on the highway, every 10km/hr you go over 100km/hr, you use 10% more fuel!
