Great news CarShare members: a brand new cargo vehicle has just been added to the fleet! As of the moment you read this, the vehicle is available to be booked at Swanson’s Home Hardware on Park St. in Kitchener!! This exciting news represents more than one year’s worth of work by the members and staff of the co-operative and is a major step forward for carsharing in our community.
Based on member feedback provided last year, the co-op acquired a Ford Transit Connect, which brings you the cargo capacity of a typical cargo vehicle, but with the fuel efficiency of a regular sedan. As a cargo van is not a vehicle that most people typically own, the co-op hopes this will also attract a new group of members to the co-op and carsharing. Tell all your friends about this great new vehicle in the fleet!
The Transit Connect has some great features to help you move your cargo, and they include: rear doors that open 180 degress, sliding side doors, floor and wall-mounted cargo hooks, and a rubberized floor to keep things from sliding around. The vehicle also features built-in blind spot mirrors (necessary for safe lane changes), and has all the usual creature comforts such as air conditioning, cruise control, and a stereo system including an auxiliary input jack.
Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the cargo vehicle and its features before your first trip. Carefully review the “Tips and Tricks” section of the Reservation Confirmation Page, or contact staff if you have any additional questions about using this vehicle. Staff spent some extra time getting to know the vehicle on their first trip, and we suggest you book an extra half an hour on your first trip to do the same.
Because the cargo van was more expensive for the co-operative to acquire (it is about double the price the co-op usually pays for a vehicle), premium rates will be charged for this vehicle. The premium rates, however, won’t begin until July 1, 2012. Please enjoy the discounted rates for the first month as a special incentive to celebrate this new vehicle in the fleet!
